Windows Vista has introduced a new shutdown method, involving several clicks to restart or turn off the PC. However, if you want to speed this process up it is possible to place an icon on your desktop which will shutdown or restart your PC.

To do this, right click on your desktop and click New then Shortcut:

Size: 44.2 KB

Then, type in "shutdown -s -t 0" as the item location and click NEXT:

Give the icon an easy name to remember, such as "Shutdown" and click Finish:

Now check your Desktop and you'll have your shutdown icon:

If you wish to make the icon restart rather than shutdown, type in "shutdown -r -t 0" instead.
