Shutdown Problems with Vista on a HP 6715b laptop

I've had this dual core 2ghz processor with 2gb of ram
vista business for 6 weeks now and I've had shutdown problems

Yes I have looked at the frequent post from the msvp regularly posted

Shortly after I first set up in early Jan, windows update was mammoth,
c 280mb incl an office 2007 sp1

Shortly afterwards I uninstalled both greasmonkey audio and realplayer
and finally had normal shutdown

By the way I changed from 'restart to memory dump' to facilitate a
'clean' shutdown as well

Well the dreaded shutdown bug has returned
I've gone back a couple of retore points to no effect
I've uninstalled more software, eventually I'll have nothing but ms
software at this rate, but to no effect
I've changed the log to 'verbose' and will report back any messages
I've run the malicious ms tool with no items found
I've updated all drivers from the hp site

Any ideas on how to move forward with this bug?

Have you tried shutdown with a new user profile? If it is fast, you may have
profile corruption.

A couple of suggestions:

1. to leave your machine for a few night overnight with Internet on.

2. Boot to safe mode, do shutdown and see if there are any error logs in
Event Viewer.

3. The same may be useful to investigate in regular boot (normal windows) at
shutdown. What kind of error messages and other event logs are in there.
