Sick of the name-calling

Hey, what's with all this nasty name-calling on these boards? Aren't these
forums here to help people with this new technology? Why do so many of you
have to act like spoiled children? I use these boards to find answers to
vista-related problems that I have, and I'm sick of seeing you cut and slash
one another. Enough already.

Hi Ron,

It's unfortunate that some behave this way, but it is an open public forum.
Like any unmonitored public gathering, there will always be those that don't
have the self-discipline necessary to comport themselves in the appropriate
manner and stick to the purpose and subject matter of the group. There are
also those that attempt to use the public forums to espouse their own agenda
without consideration of others. That fact by itself should reveal the value
of that poster's worth. Use of the "block sender" feature of most
newsreaders goes a long way towards allowing you to ignore them.

"Plonk" them. Also known as "kill file". In Windows Mail/Newsreader:

Tools > Message Rules > News..

If you want them gone right away apply the rule right away. If there are
vestiges, reloading the newsgroup (simply by exiting from and returning to
the group, not re-downloading) will get rid of them.

I already have a short list. e.g. "Alias" and "Adam Albright" who waste
one's time endlessly. They never actually contribute by helping anyone, they
merely taunt and critize and troll.

I think this childish stuff is the work of one or more very intelligent
people. Some of their posts are insightful and on point. At times I think
maybe it is the work of one person with multiple personalities expressing
their inner conflicts in the only way they know how. If the rest of us just
humor them by NEVER responding to their posts once the jokesters start their
routine, they might move elsewhere (sad for their new posting place). I
think this person might be smart enough to spoof their web locations.

On the surface their odd post may seem "insightful", but a little analysis
even the "insightful" posts by these guys amounts to shallow drivel. It's
trolling plain and simple and a complete waste of time and effort. 'Best to
plonk and ignore them.

its not multiple personalities.
99% of the posts you are reading are from one person...

perhaps you are the only second person here.. all the rest of the posters is
the same "other" fellow..
(with some obvious exceptions)

They have a filter now in that if certain words are in the post it doesn't
get posted on the microsoft servers .. but may still get posted on the
non-microsoft "usenet" servers (propagation etc. etc.). I use the Microsoft
severs directly (msnews.microsoft.com) so I don't see those posts. As to
whether they ban specific individuals or domains? I don't know. The people
they'd more likely ban are those who use those words in their postings, so
maybe there's no real need. They sort of ban themselves!

Have a nice weekend,
Saucy

LOL....thanks. I've always used Outlook Express in XP and Windows Mail in
Vista so I don't get to see those either.
