Sidebar issues

I've been searching the net for a solution to the sidebar failing to load.
For some people it seems as though
there are DLL issues, that once corrected restores the sidebar. And then
there are a few of us that can't
resolve.

Here is the fix that seems to help most.

1. Open a command prompt by being Administrator (Right click on Command
Prompt and click Run as Administrator)
2. CD to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ( cd drive letter:\Program
Files\Windows Sidebar )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 atl.dll
4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

I've also read that the problem may also be caused by some anti virus
updates. Lastly, some people have said that upgrading
Java seems to fix the sidebar.

Personally I don't really care if the sidebar works or not, but it really
****es me off that here's supposedly "the best os ever" and it
breaks itself just like every other version of windows. that plus the fact
that Microsoft does not have any fixes for this problem. Do a Google search
and you will see that there are tons of people having the same issue. I'm
sick and tired of having to play around
with this crap. I just want my PC to work. Is that too much to ask?

It may not be too much to ask, but it certainly is unrealistic. And that
notwithstanding all the partisans of various operating systems that insist
their favorite "just works." I have used most of them, including Mac and
Linux, and you get to fuss with all of them as stuff breaks from time to
time: just like Windows. In fact, my two Vista machines are by far the most
stable of the lot, and while I don't believe any of them "just work", Vista
comes closest.

That is simply the shape of the world, and while you don't have to like it,
there is little point in letting yourself get so upset about it. It's not
like you can switch to some other system and it will all be better. I hope
the rest of your day goes better.

Well I agree with the stability you say about Vista. But in proportion to
it's strength over previous versions, when it breaks it breaks big time.

Thanks for the input.
