99% of your Messenger Live customers will NOT hunt down and piece together
the terrible collection of information on the net regarding this issue. I
request that you show a little sense and acknowledge an issue as clear as
day, let's say for instance right on the front of the Messenger Live site.

Just a little tip, because it's clear the way this has been handled is
pretty much killing any support for Messenger. It only takes a few days for
all loyal users to walk away!

I agree!!
This has clearly been caused/triggered by one of the recent XP updates
(could sign on fine before but not straight after the update!) So why is not
been addressed by an update or advisory?

Trillian, Mercury and Gaim all work fine for me (only reason I looked is
becuase WLM didn't fancy login in!)... also most of them have some great
fetures that WLM doesn't have.

Just acknowledge the problem and stop all the speculation and finger pointing

I've tried ALL the ealier suggestions from everybody including
Jonathons....to no avail. This problem started after a Windows update in
past 48 hrs. I've changed my Net passport password and even uninstalled WLM
and then installed the old Messenger 7.5 and still no go for sign on. I've
spent over 6hrs on this issue since last night!! Time to move on to Yahoo or
something else I guess. I'm more than ****ed off.

Hi

Have the same issues, Windows Messenger does not log on, cannot log onto
Hotmail, Internet Explorer just sits. Please sort this out, I have work to
do and relay on these services and now they are not available.

The other strange thing is when most people were having issues with Windows
Live Messenger I could log on with Windows Messenger, now those people can
log on, but now I cannot log on.

As a test I went to one of the computers that can log on, opened Windows
messenger, used my account etc and I could log on. So there is no problem
with my account.

I am at my wits end

Brett

I also reported this problem with signing in following a WinXP update. I have
done some extensive testing to isolate the problem, but failed miserably.
Unlike the suggestion i do not have ZoneAlarm, but have Norton as does my
friend who also has the same problem. Previous versions seem to work fine. If
i use a wrong password it tells me, if i sign in somewhere else and then try
Live Messenger it gives me an error, so it is clearly communicating with MSN
and my password is correct. The lack of messages and timeouts is the most
frustrating, i left it signing in for a couple of hours and still no msg. The
test connection posts no errors, however it does say it is not connected to
..NET, is that because not signed yet? I tried to back out the most recent
WinXP updates, rebooting after each but it made no difference. I've tried
usual re-registering the DLL's. I did notice that most of the rec ent updates
had to do with LIve Messenger Signin assistant, so i made sure that was
uninstalled before i re-installed Live Messenger. The only other thing i can
add is that Firefox is my default browser, although i do have IE6 installed,
as i need that for Windows Update as Microsoft ignore your settings for
default and take IE anyhow. I use Skype too, and this sort of thing just
makes me want to give up on MSN and use Skype solely as that never gives any
problems and works in some respects better than MSN.

I have just tried the Beta version 8.1.0068 and that works, so whatever the
problem was it's been fixed in next release.
