Hi all,

I've had a curiosity question regarding Vista and when I went to sign in to
this group with my Vista machine, I discovered I couldn't. When I click the
sign in button, the screen goes blank for a second and then returns to the
same position. As you can see, I'm no having any problems on my XP machine.

The curiosity question I have is this: When I hover over the task bar on my
Vista machine, the pointer turns to a rapidly moving circle - just like it
turns to an hour glass in XP. That indicates to me that it is in the midst of
doing something and is hung up, yet all of the programs seem to be operating
(though way to slow for my liking). Does this mean something? It does it on
any open program, but not over the Quick Launch Buttons or icons that are on
the far right. It also does not happen when Windows Media is embedded in the
task bar.

1) You aren't clear as to precisely what problem you're having when you try
to use the simple one click method in Win Mail to setup the newsgroup
reader:

When you hover over the taskbar, you shouldn't see the circle which is the
same as the hourglass. You need to do routine reflex maintainance on your
Vista box. Here's how:

Minimize your CPU/resource consumption, defrag regularly andwell, stop
services and processes that you do not need because Vistadefaults some that
you well may not. Also make sure you run a regularspyware scan--Defender
comes with Vista and also Add/Aware. Or Win OneCare has its own spy scanner
and I recommend it. Run the MSFT Malicious Software Removal Tool as well
from their site or download it.

6) Unck items from msconfig start tab you don't need starting and some

won't start--peoiple who think just uncking for many are naive because there

are 12 places things can be started including several reg keys like Run Once

keys and there are serveral.

7) Turn off Messaging service--it's a security vulnerability and it slows

you

8) Defrag very often every other day actually.

9) Turn off indexing.

10) Clear TIF and %temp% files (delete) and go to safe mode to get as many

as u can.

Defragging with a decent defrag every day will make a huge dent inefficient
resource/CPU use.

Perfect Disk has a 5 month full functionality trial on now for Windows
Vista.

If you run Win One Care, it has its own spyware scanning, so you don't need
Windows Defender which ships with Vista turned on.

It could be as simple as allowing pop-ups. Check the bar at the top of the
screen.

I think there must be something wrong here. I also have had trouble signing
into "communities"....just as described above. I followed suggestion to get
here....ie. newsgroup...but why isn't windows community working???? (I did
turn off pop-up blocker and I think it might have worked once but not
now....but that didn't seem to help but regardless why should we need to do
that???)

What error message do you get?
Do you have a passport or Live ID?
