Hi! i just downloaded WLM a few days ago and it worked fine for the first
day, but now whenever i try to sign in, it appears as though I have signed in
because I can see my contact list etc. But when I try to start a conversation
or check my email or anything it tells me that I'm not signed in. Plus, about
15-20 seconds later it always disconnects automatically and tries to restart.
Then the whole cycle starts over again. I'm getting really frustrated. Whats
going on? Also, when it disconnects, it mentions an "error 800701f6"

Please help!!!

Greetings Aggie,

Are you at work while you're doing this? If so, what you're describing are some classic
signs that something is preventing you from using Messenger or perhaps just a broken proxy.

Does a web-based client work, like http://webmessenger.msn.com?

Hi Johnathan,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I actually live on-campus at a university,
so I'm in my apartment when I try to connect to WLM. I'm not sure if it's due
to a proxy connection or a firewall (I have Norton Internet Security). I
tried changing/fixing my connection under Internet Options, but I'm not sure
if I did anything right. Yes, I tried using the web-based messenger and i
could connect to that, but I didn't try chatting on it.

Greetings,

I would try to configure Windows Live Messenger to use a SOCKS server. Your
network administrator should provide you with one that you will be able to
access. If he or she refuses, try complaining that some Java applets don't
work through the HTTP proxy. If not, then try to find a CGI or PHP based web
proxy that will scramble the address of the Web Messenger site
(webmessenger.msn.com) . Doing this will bypass any blocks your network
administrator has imposed.
