Signing in forever

Hi,

I was told today that "you must download the new version of MSN Messenger to
sign in", so I did, but it just signs in forever and ever and never actually
gets there (Windows Live Messenger this is)... I've literally left it on for
hours and it's still just signing in when I got back... I found an old thread
on here when I googled it, namely

and I've tried the solution there, but it hasn't worked at all.. what's going
on?!

And as an extremely annoying aside I've just found out that it lets me sign
into my sister's account completely fine, it's just mine it seems to have a
grudge against!

I got a note to upgrade WLM 8.0 to 8.1. and I did upgrade. The program works
but there is an annoying change in desktop: my folders open with a delay of
10 secs when I click the icon...programs open normally fast...if I uninstall
WLM 8.1. the folders open in a normal way. Earlier I used 8.0 with no
problems and I got a note that I could upgrade it to 8.1. I didnt cos I knew
this problen and the program said it will remind me a week later...Now the
upgrade notification pops up when I sign in and when I answer NO to
upgrade... the program never signs in! HEEEEEELP!
