signing in to gmail etc

After the last update came out about a week ago, there is no way I can
automatically be signed in to either my gmail or yahoo addresses.
Instead of confirming address and password every two weeks, it's every
time !! I have checked all the settings in both places, but no go.

Is this something to do with the update, there was another one today
but no improvement ?

I am running Home Premium 34 bit Vista and would appreciate any help.

Yahoo and GMail are web-based email aren't they? Without knowing how their
authentication routines work, I don't know anything about the confirmation
every 2 weeks that you mention.

I would guess it's a simpler issue than that, the 'remember password'
function you see in most browsers might be turned off; or, if you cleared
out your temp files, cookies or any other temporary browser files it may
have wiped out all trace of 'remembered' passwords such as those for GMail.

With some browsers (like Firefox) some you can retain form data ('auto
complete'), and 'remember password' type settings whilst clearing out all
other cookies and junk. Other browsers clean out the lot without the option
to save some and delete others.

Did you use a disk-clean up tool (like CCleaner) recently? It may be you
inadvertently told it to remove cookies and other temp files (including
cookies and such, that hold data such as passwords that enable the
'auto-logon' that you're wanting to restore.

I'm not sure it would be anything to do with a Windows update.

It definitely has nothing to do with the updating.
I have yahoo and gmail and there were no problems afterwards.
Do you have Windows Live Mail?
If not, get it and see whether that will solve your problem.
Make sure your updates have completed "successfully".
Otherwise, hang in there, someone else may have the right solution.

Windows Live Mail is a new one on me - if that's the new email
programme, I actually use MS Outlook with Office 2007.

There was an update to the update, but no change.

Thanks for your suggestion though.
