I have tried without success to post questions on Microsoft's web based
newsgroups.

To post a question, one must be signed in. Despite the fact that I am
a) signing in to the newsgroup server and
b) the browser Popup Blocker is turned off
I can never get the Popup window to post the messages. I click on the "New"
button and select the "Question" item from the drop menu and Internet
Explorer simply displays the same page again. No window opens to post an
item.

I am signing in with my Hotmail e-mail address and password.

Do yourself a BIG favour and ditch the horrible web interface. Use a news
reader instead.

Your version of Silverlight is stopping that, try this site.

Use the "Ratings" feature. It helps the new users.

The original link to Vista Discussions IS broken.

BUT, the link I posted here WORKS.
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...s/default.aspx

You scroll down the list to: microsoft.public.windows THEN expand it for
Vista Newsgroups

And it works the same as the broken one; sign in via Hotmaill Account.
MS emailed me this link months ago, when it 1st happened.

Thanks!

The link I was using is one that comes up with Google searches for
"microsoft newsgroups". The top search result takes the user to the
Microsoft Newsgroups page and, as you click through the links to get to the
Vista newsgroup, you end up on broken link.

I do use a Newsreader on my personal laptop. For some reason, when I am
connected to the internet from my office, I can't connect to newsgroups
using a newsreader. I think they blocked the news ports. That is why I use
the web based interface from work.

if you need newsgroups for work ;-) then your IT dept should be able to give
you port 119 access......
If not then you'll have to lump it!
