I posted on the other link and nobody responded. In reading through the
threads, it just seemed that most people were just hiding the update or
setting their computers not to download recommended updates. I didn't want to
do that, so just ignored it for many times, but eventually I did decide to
hide it.
After you posted your question I decided to unhide it and try again to see
what would happen. It wasn't there! So, I searched my help menu and this is
what it says: "I restored hidden updates but I can't find the one that I
want to install.... That's because a more recent update addresses the same
problem as the update that you tried to restore. Windows will offer you the
more recent update only."
Sooooo... I know that my computer FINALLY updated to Vista SP1 this week (as
well as many other Vista and Office updates) so I am thinking that perhaps
the Silverlight issue may have had something to do with the fact that I
wasn't running SP1 or one of the other updates addressed the issue. One of
those was a Windows Update Agent 7.2.6001.784 on Sept. 4. I'd suggest you a)
run the Malicious Software Removal Tool; b) check for updates; c) uncheck the
Microsoft Silverlight if it's still showing; d) leave all other updates
checked; e) download any updates (other than the Silverlight).
See if that helps. If not, the only thing that I can say is if you have
Vista, ensure that you have Windows Vista SP1 installed. If not, there is
information on Microsoft on how to get that installed.
Good luck!
