I'm an American living in China. I'm running Windows 7. We have a lot of
DVDs for my 4 year old to watch, some bought in the US and some bought
(legally) here in China. Our DVD player, which plays everything, just broke,
so I popped one of my daughter's favorite China-bought DVDs into the computer
and was promptly told that I would have to switch regions, which I'm only
allowed to do five times before it renders half of my legally bought DVDs
worthless.
I was surprised because I figured by now Microsoft would've made WMP able to
play DVDs from any region. Surely it would be simple to do, right? So my
question is, how do I fix it so that WMP will play all my DVDs without
hassling me about changing regions all the time and without being denied the
ability to play half of my DVDs?
Or is the best thing to do just to replace the DVDs I've bought legally here
in China with identical ones that have been pirated from Region 1, and from
now on only buy pirated discs?
