A google search for the hex code found the solution - installing Steganos
Internet Anonym 6 can break BITS. I uninstalled SIA6, rebooted and voila!
"You have updates waiting".
Well done to whoever originally posted that, wherever it was - I can
confidently say I would *never* have found that
