it just tells me Failed Updates

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem

whih does not help me solve it. what do i do??????

Hi Laura,

Open Services on your computer.
Look for:
Automatic Updates Set Startup Type to
Automatic in the Properties section.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service Set Startup Type to Automatic in
the Properties section.
Event Log Set Startup Type to
Automatic in the Properties section.

These Services must be Set to Automatic.

Guess this win's a booby prize for lastest response to an offer of
information to help...This did not help and all those services were already
on automatic and i restarted them anyway and even after a reboot (i did it
all!lol) no change. I am still after almost 6 months unable to get updates
on my computer. Frankly i am debating just scratching the whole xp system and
reload it from scratch. They r some things about my disk partition I want
to change any way..

Can anyone give anyt input on what they think of that idea? I am accused of
doing some irrational things often and just not sure inthis is a rational
thing to do or not! I am a former systems engineer with a bs in CIS but a
nerological disorder (sereously)short circuited my brain..
