site subnets

We have a rather large enterprise setup for our AD environment. We use sites
for replication and authentication across site links to various cities etc..
Over time and after numerous network changes we have several subnets defined
in sites that are no longer in use. Is there any harm in leaving thse subnets
in the site defintion? Do subnet defintions broadcast any types of
advertisements out acros the network? Any help would be appreciated.
