Skype is annoying the crap out of me & why does Vista bother me when I disable things?

I recently installed Skype on my Vista PC. Ever since I did this, any time I
go into an ebay auction I get an annoying popup that says "A website wants to
open web content using this program on your computer ... Name: Skype, Take a
deep breath"

Skype has no business tampering with my Ebay pages, so I tell it no.

I tried to manage the IE addins and found the miserable addin that is causing
this problem and it's called "Skype Detection Object". I disabled it, and now
everytime I go into an ebay page I get an annoying "bubble" that says "Add-On
Disabled. This page is requesting an add-on that is disabled"

Another related story -- I disabled some startup programs that I don't need.
Now, everytime I reboot my PC, Vista feels the need to have another annoying
bubble down on the taskbar to inform me that "Startup programs have been
disabled". I click it and make it go away and some number of minutes later it
comes back again.

Can't Vista understand that goddammit when I disable something, I want it to
stay disabled???? I take it the OS and the applications know best and we
simple users are idiots?

Does anyone have a solution to either of these problems? As this Skype
software in particular seems extraordinarily invasive, I may be forced to
either remove it entirely, move it to a different PC, or sandbox it inside of
the virtual machine.

You temporarily disable a startup object when you're troubleshooting a
problem. If you want to permanently prevent something from starting with
(any version of) Windows, you either look for that option in the
program's menus, contact the program's technical support or uninstall
the program.

If Skype is annoying you so much, you should complain to Skype.
Complaining to your fellow users won't help.

This doesn't answer your question, but FYI, EBay owns Skype (PayPal too).
There might be some connection there.

i believe skype is owned by ebay now, probably why you see the interaction
between skype and when you visit ebay.

I am not known to defend Microsoft, but this deserves it.

You load Skype and you wonder why you are having problems?

Uninstall Skype. If you still have problems, backup your data and
re-install your OS.

Vista is just warning you of Skypes propensity to meddle with your system.

I don't have problems with Skype...without Skype add-ons enabled. "Skype
take a deep breathe" is blocked by Windows Firewall.
It's open when needed, otherwise it remains closed.

The issue is both the fault of Skype and the fault of Microsoft. Part of the
reason why we have this huge security and spyware mess is the philosophy of
Microsoft that allows invasive software like Skype to easily attach itself to
unrelated services, like IE.

There is no reason why skype needs to interact with IE while I am viewing web
pages. Yet, if I try to disable this interaction, Vista complains, argues,
and harasses me about it.

It takes an act of God and a half dozen UAC clicks for me to perform the
simplest of tasks, yet invasive software seems to easily attach itself to
core services.

If so, then Vista should accept the preference I set (which was to disable
the Skype IE plugin) and stop harassing me.

Part of the responsibility of the OS is to provide software isolation. Vista
fails miserably at doing this. One click to authorize the installation of an
application, and all of a sudden the program has hooks all over the operating
system.

There's a place in the world for the angry young man
With his working class ties and his radical plans
He refuses to bend, he refuses to crawl,
And he's always at home with his back to the wall.
And he's proud of his scars and the battles he's lost,
And he struggles and bleeds as he hangs on his cross.
And he likes to be known as the angry young man...

Was Skype installed when you installed Vista? No.
