I'm not so comp-savvy, nor do I know this forum very well

I have vista home basic. I'm having trouble with the sleep function o
my laptop

When I click the little power button above the built in keyboard
instead of going to sleep, it locks the computer (asks you to type i
the password again) and turns the screen off. Nothing more happens
Normally, I hear some noisy fan and stuff, and then it goes pretty muc
silent. Now, the screen turns black and it responds to keystrokes, whic
it then responds by asking me for my password. After a while when it
screen shuts off, you can still hear inside stuff wizzing around

I have gone and checked the power options. It says that when I clic
the button, it should go to sleep. I've also manually selected th
"sleep" icon/tab/thingy from the menu, and it has the same result

I'd like the sleep function on my vista back, its rather annoying t
have to restart my comp every time its near overheating

Anything else I should have tried

Also, I've been ignoring those update thingies. Would updating or w/
help

IIRC, there is a sleep option to require a password on waking up. You seem
to have that one selected. If I'm correct, you need to find it and unselect
it.

Thats not the main problem. It dosn't sleep, all it does is turn th
screen off, and lock my comp. Normally, the fan turns off, and th
computer parts stop moving
