Slide transition does not fade during slideshow

In the past, when I presented a slideshow using Windows, the slides would
fade-out/fade-in during the transition from one silde to the next. Yesterday,
I did a slideshow and there was no fade, just straight transitions from one
to the other.
Last week I did install SP 1 for my Vista Business os, but have run
successful slideshows since then. What could have happened? I have not
changed anything.

It's possible that you have a check in the box for .../Accessories/Ease of
Access/"Make the computer easier to see"/"Turn off all unnecessary
animations"

Click start. type:
sysdm.cpl
Advanced tab, Performance-Settings button, set window transitions and fade
features.

there was no check in the "turn off all unnecessary animations (when
possible)" box.

Under "Visual Effects":
"Let Windows Choose..." is selected and all items in the list below are
checked.

I would try a "Custom" setting, to force the use of that feature.

Mark, I'm a little confused now. You sent me two answers and I don't know
which one you are referring to when you say to try a custom setting. Also, I
am a user only and don't understand much of the terminology. Could you send a
step-by-step on this? Thanks. Mike
