Slow Connection

I had everyone's folders redirected to a single server \\myserver\shares and
everything worked great. I then thought for extra security I would move them
to a DFS server so replication could happen for redundancy. So now the
folder redirection is pointing to \\my.domain\dfsshare. My own computer is
the only one using this share and if I hit refresh on the desktop it can take
10 - 15 seconds to complete. I don't have a lot of desktop item and all are
5kb links. I am not sure why it is so slow when on the single server, which
also has less horse power, it was next to instant on the refresh? Any ideas?
