Folks

I have purchased a new high spec machine running with Vista Business. All
my apps work well except my internet access (dial up in this area only)
which is so slow it is driving me to drink!! When downloading photos or
accessing sites with photos (for example Photosig, DPOTD etc) the photos all
only download to about half of the image. The thumbnails are fine its just
when I click on the photo. Any ideas?

regards
Don

You will have to get Broadband. Dial-up is supposed to be 56kilobit/per
second. Divide by 8 to get kilobyte= 7 kilobyte/ps. It never runs at that due
to distance from exchange, dirty lines, etc. Normally about 4.5-5.5
kilobyte/ps.

Broadband is either 256 kilobitps, 512, 1024, or in my country up to 24,000
kilobit ps; but in reality I could only get 20,000 kilobit ps. And that is
through an ADSL2 exchange connection to the phone line!!!! Not bad really.

I hope that explains why your downloads and web page loading are slow.

Mick

thanks for your comments. Unfortunately where we are Broadband is not
available (17kms from the centre of a major city - Adelaide, well done
Telstra). I am basing my download speeds on the comparison from Windows XP
to Vista.

Don

What about "internode" over there in Adelaide, Don? They are supposed to be a
good ISP

http://www.internode.on.net/

Telstra has the worst deals around. I use a mob called "onthenet.com.au" up
here in QLD and get 6 gigs a month for $39.95, with no upload charge

Have a look at that link Don to internode.

Cheers mate.

In IE7 you could turn off the phishing filter(as people on here recommend)
but I don't; as it works

Don, a few people on here, and mates at AAPT recommend that in Network
Connection Properties you untick the TCP/IPv6. We always used TCP/IPc4, and
the "6" apparently does cause probs for some people. Mine works with it.
