slow laptop

I have just loaded the latest windows update and it seems to me that every
time I do this my laptop runs slower and slower. Slow to load programmes and
then slow to open them. I am fairly inexperienced so simple language would be
appreciated. Should I take it in to be fixed?

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1) when
posting to this newsgroup.

What updates did you install?

Not enough information. At least let us know brand, model, ram, disk
size, OS, updates, antivirus and so on.
