Slow to open jpegs

Dear all,


on a brand new computer (3Gb RAM) running win vista, double clicking a
simple jpeg file: more than one minute to open the file.
Even if I associate jpg files with paint, it takes minutes to open.

Any hint?

I'll bet you're using McAfee or Norton.

there is indeed a McAfee evaluation version on this computer.

After both Norton and McAfee both corrupted my Windows Mail (each at a
different time) I removed them & installed AVG & my HP notebook is running
75% faster. My email is still messed up & hope that a true solution is found
someday before I really need it. My computer originally came with Norton but
Comcast gives a free download of McAfee which wasn't worth much either.
Everything ran so slow I thought there was something wrong with the machine.

AVG runs on my machine too.
However I do get messages saying it is not compatible with Vista.
This is connected with the messages obtained when a scan is
complete. I am fully updated.
I have had lots of trouble with Windows Mail crashing and corrupted
database for newsgroup messages.
I think the main problem is that software vendors are still catching up,
and have rushed software updates to make them compatible with Vista.
