Slow Performance After Installing MS05-052

Hello,

I installed the MS05-052 security update on my XP SP2 PC. After the
update, the performance of the PC was extremely slow. For example, even
something as simple as moving the mouse cursor - cursor movement on the
screen was delayed by several seconds. Or, normally, Outlook Express starts
instantly, but after the update, just starting Outlook Express took 4 minutes.

I uninstalled the update and performance was back to normal. Any ideas
what I can do to install MS05-052 and not have the performance problems?

Thanks,

Matt

Hm, did you install MS05-052 (KB896688) isolated or the other
released security updates too?

Is there any AV software in the background running while you're
installing any update?

Although I doubt it can fix the problem you've decribed, try the
following - it cannot harm your system in any case:

Download the file OLEfix.zip available here (it is a registry file
that origin from MS Support, and it has fixed the ActiveX problem
for several people, getting this problem after installing KB896688):

http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip

Extract it and double click the contained OLEfix.reg file. Click Yes
on the dialog box that asks you if you are sure to add the information
in OLEfix.reg to the registry.

You may have to reboot your machine afterwards.

Bye,
Freudi
