Slow response when opening files (Excel, Word, etc.)

Am running XP Professional, SP3. Recently, when I go into Start, Documents,
and double click to open Excel(both 2007 & 2003 files, Word 07 & 03, etc.)
the files seem to just go into a non-responsive mode for extended time(20
secs up to 1 min) before opening. If I go into the application first, then
open the file, it opens immediately.

Have Office 2007 installed on system.

Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear of your problems, but how is this relevant to Windows Update?

Perhaps you need to post to a more relevant NG for your problem -

Thought this might be a side effect of installing SP3
