Hi all,
I experience the slowly access shared resources by Windows Explorer on the
client computer that both using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and SP3 ...
The two server are both domain based DFS with W2K3 R2 x64 with SP2 already
......
I have had setting up the DFS with DFS and DFS-R, so both server also have
backup (E.G. two root path, two target etc, and auto replication the files
both way FS01 <--> FS02)
Server 1 is named "FS01"
Server 2 is named "FS02"
My test is do by this ...
Let said what I do, I have a shared resouce named IT Folder
It have two folder target
One is "\\FS01\IT_01" on FS01
One is "\\FS02\IT_02" on FS02
They are all like below for client side
\\domainname\share\IT (For XP Pro joined Domain)
\\FS01\share\IT or
\\FS02\share\IT (For XP Home or XP Pro not joined Domain)
-----------------
While using above way to access the shared resource in Windows Explorer,
something it is fast, something it will need waiting about 10 - 30 second
then can goback upper folder or go to the deeper folder ....
But ...... but ...
When I try using ....
\\FS01\IT_01 or
\\FS02\IT_02
to directly access the shared resource like not install DFS this way, the
access is very smooth whatever how many user or go to upper or deeper folder
path. So I can note that it is not my server or HDD speed not enough or
hardware performance drop etc....
And I had try save a Word or Excel or copy some files by this, and see the
DFS-R also working, it will immediately copy the file to the other server
like FS01 <---> FS02 too ...
I am wonder why ...... using \\domain\share\IT or \\FS02\share\IT will
experience slowly ...
but usiing
\\FS01\IT_01 will not ......
I had search Microsoft 's web site, finded a hotfix KB915377 said the case
look like very same like me, but it look like not work for me ...
I have try install this hotfix to the XP SP2 client, but SP3 haven't, and
haven't install to the W2K3 server .....
Since I am thinking just client side access server, so haven't install this
hotfix on the server. Do it the reason it is still slowly???
Thank you.
