Small black blemish

Probably not the most critical thing that needs fixing, but in my WLM
main window, just below the row of icons below the contacts list, there
is a 2×2 pixel black square (see http://www.swiftys.org.uk/wlm.jpg )

It's no big deal, but it shouldn't be there. It seems to be what you get
if the advertisement fails to appear for some reason. There is no
advertisement in my screen capture, and the square is right where the
top left of the containing box would have appeared.

I wouldn't normally worry about this sort of thing (although I find
video blemishes irritating) but I've recently upgraded my old 19" LCD
with a pair of 22"/24" widescreens, and each time I see a little black
spot, I start thinking "pixel failure".

I should have quit while I was ahead. I would love to get rid of the
advertisements, and I must have managed it, but I went and restarted WLM
to see if the square would survive, and I got the advertisements back.
So now its a big rectangle, that's irritating me even more. :-)

Hey Steve,

Well the ad itself is a graphic with a border around it. With the graphic gone, the border
still stays.

Although I certainly aren't a fan of people removing the ad window, there are better methods
like patching your client with A-Patch which don't cause these display glitches.

Thanks for that insight.

I hadn't done anything to make the ad disappear, but I have frequent
short ADSL interruptions, so it probably just happened. If I'd
deliberately tried to get rid of the ad, and had ended up with a small
blemish, then (I hope) I would have realised that it was a collapsed
border.

It would have been better if the border had been suppressed when there
was nothing for it to border, but there are bigger fish to fry.
