Will the small thumbnail display pictures ever come back?

I love being able to see the small thumbnail pictures on the main window for
my contacts on MSN 7.5 and when WLM was released, I later uninstalled it
because I could not see the pics without making the contacts being bigger
(which doesn't look so great, when I have a lot of contacts online and me
using a laptop with a tiny screen).

So I was wondering is there any plans or solutions to make the small
thumbnail option appear on an upcoming version of Live Messenger?

There is a details view button available near the add contact button.

I don't think so. If you used the Vista beta, they had something similar for images there in
Windows explorer itself and then removed it citing the same "it was too small to be useful"
excuse.

However, you can get this feature back by using an "unsupported" (aka no stamp of approval
from Microsoft) patch. The "Mess" Patch will do this
for you which you can find here:
http://www.mess.be
(look for the Mess patch link in the top headlines).

The feature in question is "Show Small Display Pictures In Normal View".
