Hi NG,

I ordered the CD from MS and installed SP2 without any troubles.

After successfull installation everthing seems to work fine except:
* boot / start seems to take longer than before
* accessing printer(s) takes extremely long,
i.e. after accessing print menu (in all programs)
it takes long until the print wizard (print settings) appears.

Are such (rather small) troubles known after XP SP2,
and how to improve the situation?

Thx, Toni from Austria

Once I upgraded my machine to SP2 performance stunk. It would take 10
minutes to load up the desktop, then 1 or two minutes to pop up the start
menu. Only a few programs would run.

MS tech support had me change registry setting

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Rpcss\ObjectName=LocalSystem

This fixed the problem and the machine now runs normally.

Maybe this is your problem

MS tech support had me change

Anton I am very curious about your fix posted by syrob. I attempted it, but
I am still having the same problem you discribe. Changing the registry to
LocalSystem under that key did not
help on my system. It still take a very long time to get the full Desktop
up. Have you
found any other work around? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Hank Gorman

No I did not try it up to now.
I have a workaround: I do not shut down the PC,
I "hibernate" (I do not know the English term, I have a german XP) it
i.e. storing to disc; restoring is rather quick.

Printer problems seem to be linked to Adobe (Ver. 5);
accessing another printer is much quicker.

Additionally, I believe slow starting is linked with
the virus scanner (McAfee v6) which is pretty good
but seems to start slow - I'll try an update.
