smss.exe running error

The update will not finish. it downloads then begins and then comes up with
this error.
I have never had a problem before.

Home edition
version 2002
Service Pack 2

Compaq
Presario
INtel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz
2.53 GHz, 238 MB RAM

Which update will not install ? Please provide the exact KB number along
with the name of the installed antivirus|security suite software.

The sp3 last update for XP
I have never had a problem before I have scaned for virus and spyware

I have AVAST up todate and spywareblaster uptodate
I turned both of them off and it still would not update
this is the last update for XP

*If* you are referring to Service Pack 3 for XP, suggest you read this
first:

Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3

Download the entire SP3 package from here and *save* it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Create a folder on the root drive [ the drive where Windows is installed
to; usually C:\ ] and name it SP3. Move
WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe to the newly created folder and run
it from there.
If any errors result, consult KB950717 as it has a table of errors at
the bottom of the KB article.
