Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides (link below). After you establish the
pairing and configure Bluetooth on your Smartphone the way to initiate this again is by starting ActiveSync on your mobile device and clicking the option Connect via Bluetooth. -- Mauricio Freitas, Microsoft MVP Mobile Devices http://www.geekzone.co.nz Bluetooth guides: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 Software for Pocket PC and Smartphone: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/store Software for Pocket PC directly on your device: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/inhand.asp "Scott McDonald" <> wrote in message news:... >I got this to work once last night when I first got the phone - It >syncronized all my outlook stuff as it should. In active sync I don't get far enough to get a prompt to connect via
bluetooth, it just cycles through trying com and usb ports then says "verify that the port you are using is available" - then cycles through again. There's never an option to connect via bluetooth? That's the point - you don't do this on ActiveSync on your computer.
All ActiveSync over Bluetooth *must* be initiated from the mobile device. Once you configure ActiveSync on your desktop to "listen" on a specific COM port (in this case the Bluetooth incoming serial port), it wll expect a connection on that port. The connection is presented when you use Connect via Bluetooth from ActiveSync *on your Smartphone*. So the whole configuration is: Create an incoming serial port on Bluetooth configuration Change ActiveSync on PC to expect a connection on this new port On your Smartphone you reset any ActiveSync configuration Start a new pairing with your PC Confirm this is a Bluetooth ActiveSync connection From this point on to start ActiveSync, from your Smartphone you open ActiveSync and hit the Connect via Bluetooth option. Check this article (Bluetooth configuration for Widcomm though idea is same for all): http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2643 Cheers! -- Mauricio Freitas, Microsoft MVP Mobile Devices http://www.geekzone.co.nz Bluetooth guides: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 Software for Pocket PC and Smartphone: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/store Software for Pocket PC directly on your device: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/inhand.asp "Scott McDonald" <> wrote in message news:... > In active sync I don't get far enough to get a prompt to connect via > bluetooth, it just cycles through trying com and usb ports then says > "verify that the port you are using is available" - then cycles through > again. But here's the problem I have:
"Change ActiveSync on PC to expect a connection on this new port" This is a first sync, I can't change anything, it expects to be able to connect with the device before it will allow me to change anything. Now, I realize plugging in a mini-usb etc would work, but again, I got this working the first day I had the phone, it sync'd up with my laptop at home, then at work the next morning I went to sync it again and it wouldn't work. I've since uninstalled/reinstalled everything, gone into safe mode and cleared out the com ports it created, uninstalled the Dell drivers for bluetooth and reinstalled XP SP2 to get the native support bluetooth drivers etc - still nothing. My laptop sees the phone, my phone sees the laptop, I can pair the two all day long, dialup networking says it's connecting/connected and working - but activesync refuses to see the device. I just tried it via iR - Once again, computer and phone see eachother,
activesync doesn't see it at all. Is this the first partnership to be created on this ActiveSync installation
on this particular PC? The first time ActiveSync is used it will run the Wizard to configure ports, etc. It's highly recommend you do this first connection via USB, just to complete the Wizard. Then after this you'll be able to open the Connection Settings dialog and change things there. -- Mauricio Freitas, Microsoft MVP Mobile Devices http://www.geekzone.co.nz Bluetooth guides: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 Software for Pocket PC and Smartphone: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/store Software for Pocket PC directly on your device: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/inhand.asp "Scott McDonald" <> wrote in message news:uqk%... > But here's the problem I have: > > "Change ActiveSync on PC to expect a connection on this new port" > > This is a first sync, I can't change anything, it expects to be able to > connect with the device before it will allow me to change anything. > > Now, I realize plugging in a mini-usb etc would work, but again, I got > this working the first day I had the phone, it sync'd up with my laptop at > home, then at work the next morning I went to sync it again and it > wouldn't work. Ok, I stopped being stubborn and sync'd it with usb then setup the device on
my system via bluetooth, added the com part and still, nothing. I initiate a sync or bluetooth setup from the device and it just comes back with "please bond with other bluetooth device which supports serial port or activesync profile as your activesync partner!" I'm stuck, again... I have just got a Smartphone to test this here.
On Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Smartphone it will connect to the last bonded Bluetooth device that offers Serial port service. I've tested this now and works like this. Points to consider: - Make sure the Bluetooth dongle is plugged directly to your computer, not a USB HUB - Make sure there's no firewall software blocking ActiveSync or Bluetooth - Make sure the ActiveSync is listening to the correct port. It should be set to listen on the port set as Incoming (or in some software Service). Also, ActiveSync only "sees" port up to COM9. Are you using a port within this limit? As I said I tried this now and it worked. -- Mauricio Freitas, Microsoft MVP Mobile Devices http://www.geekzone.co.nz Bluetooth guides: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449 Software for Pocket PC and Smartphone: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/store Software for Pocket PC directly on your device: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/inhand.asp "Scott McDonald" <> wrote in message news:... > Ok, I stopped being stubborn and sync'd it with usb then setup the device > on my system via bluetooth, added the com part and still, nothing.
