I apologize for using this forum for something that is unrelated to
Vista.
I have been looking for a better screenshot device/program, and I came
upon this SnagIt8. My problem is after capturing the image and pasting
it to a wordpad or equivalent, I couldn't find a way to copy/paste to a
post like this one. The Paste was always grayed out when I tried to
paste it here. Either that, or I would have an empty box with a red X at
the top. I can't use the paperclip icon either, because people who
clicked the link would be asked to join something before they could see
the screenshot. Anyone who uses SnagIt8 please show me the way. Thank
you.

t-4-2 If you want to copy something to here, whether it is a URL, or
something in Word, notepad text on the Net, :
1 Select it,(highlight it in colour) with the mouse cursor
2 Hit Ctrl + C
3 Go to where you want to place it(for instance, right here!), insert mouse
cursor
4 Hit Ctrl + V

Because you need to be using RTF (Rich Text Format) or HTML to do
that.

Usenent doesn't support such formats so just forget about it.

Thank you. I was afraid something like that being the reason. What a
shame, that SnagIt8 was so promising.

Thank you for your quick response. Sadly the method did not work.

Hello Nonny
There is still certain puzzlement perhaps you can help me understand.
used SnagIt8 to capture an image, attached it to an e-mail, sent it t
myself via Windows mail, and I got it pronto. Now I log on to Window
Mail newsgroup and I can't include the same image on my" reply to th
group" which comes in a form of an e-mail ?? What a screwed u
arrangement

Email messages and newsgroup postings can be sent in different formats,
usually text only or HTML (rich text). The first one is exactly what it
says; text only, no images, formatting etc. The latter is the same as you
find in web pages. Images can be inserted, fonts and colours altered and so
on.

On the Usenet, ie. newsgroups, text-only is the format in use. It is the way
business is done here. If you like to attach a picture to a newsgroup post,
upload it to a web server like ImageShack and include a link to the image in
the posting.

Thank you, Charlie42. I'm using ImageGrotto for quite some time now.
just thought I could get a better software to enhance my screenshots
Should I blame MS for being so cheap or out-dated ?

I assume that you are using Windows Vista. Have you tried the Snipping Tool?

There is no use in pointing fingers at Bill Gates for the technical
limitations of newsgroups, which is not a Microsoft technology. The Usenet
has been part of the Internet since the late seventies, and remains mostly
faithful to it's chosen text format.

Of course, newsgroups do not compare well to modern, shiny web forums, but
then again web forums do not compare very well to the efficiency of reading
and posting with a newsreader like Windows Mail.

As for the built-in Snipping Tool in Windows, I am quite happy with the
improvements Vista offered. Of course, SnagIt or similar programs will let
you do a lot more. I guess choosing which one to use depends on what your
needs are.

If you really want to include pictures in newsgroup postings, you can go to
the Format menu > Rich text (HTML), and next choose Insert > Image (in
Windows Mail, other clients have similar options). This practice is frowned
upon, though.
