snipping tool no save

Snipping Tool does not allow me to save a selection either by selecting
Save As or Save Snip. Performing either action produces absolutely no
result, no error message - nothing.

I used Process Monitor to check for a NO ACCESS entry but nothing.

I did a 'sfc /scannow' but that did not fix the problem.

Thanks for any help please!

Marty,

I use Vista Ultimate 32 Bit and I've never had a problem using the
snipping tool. I simply choose the window I want to save, click on "file",
click on "save as", click on save in the download folder location and I am
done. In my case, the default "save as" location is my Pictures folder and I
see no reason to change it.

I have also saved to my desktop, Documents, etc, etc, etc with no problems
whatsoever.

Have a nice day.

C.B.

It used to work for me too, but not now. I did see another post
describing a similar problem but it appears it was never resolved:

Marty,

Open the snipping tool and click on "Options". Check your settings. Are
you trying to save the image as HTML, PNG, GIF or JPEG?

Under Options in Snipping Tool there is no settings to configure as you
described above. Not on my system anyway.

I guess that is part of my problem. Snipping Tool is has become
corrupted in some way.

Thanks for your help CB, I found the problem. I had moved the Pictures
folder and since Pictures is the default directory where Snipping Tool
likes to save, it broke of course. My god, this is just another example
of how brittle Vista is.

Actually, you can locate the Pictures folder wherever you like. Just
make sure you tell Vista the new location. Go to Start menu, right-click
on Pictures, select Properties, select Location tab and enter new
location. You can also restore default location from here.

I click "Start", right-mouse click on "Pictures", select "Properties"
and all I see is the "General" tab. No "Location", nothing else.

My desktop folder doesn't have a "Pictures" folder in it (I must have
removed it). I create a new folder "Pictures" in the desktop folder. But
I still only see the "General" tab.

What do I do to get Vista to put back the Pictures folder so I can get
to the snippit "saveAs" dialog inorder to save the image somewhere else?

Followed the directions at:
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/90...l-folders.html
using the shell:My Pictures command. The command inserted a "Pictures"
shortcut
into my desktop folder. On the property's tab of the "Pictures"
shortcut was
the true location of the real "Pictures" folder - in my cast this was
in the "Search" folder.
(Don't know how it got there). Once found, I used the location tab on
the "Search\Pictures" folder to move it to my D: disk where it was
supposed to be.

After which the snipping tool SaveAs dialog appeared!!

Thanks very much for discovering this snippet quirk!
