What you are describing happened to me as well. I had my settings set the same as yours. I unchecked everything that the yellow shield suggested to install, except the validation tool which I figured would cause no harm, and told it to only install that one particular item. The yellow shield returned and said ready to install updates. I decided to check and just make sure, and low and behold all of the boxes were checked again, which I know I had just unchecked and told it not to remind me of those updates again. I've since turned automatic updates off. I've grown tired of this, always being the criminal. I've decided, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Same thing happened to my friend who called me in a panic later that night. Said his computer wouldn't shut down until updates were installed, which also was against his wishes. He had decided not to install the patches for a few days to see if patch were going to cause any of the previous problems the Patch Tuesday set seemed to cause a few weeks ago. He has since done a system restore to remove the unwanted yet forced installed patches, primarily because he was angered that it installed against his wishes. He told me this morning, he too has turned off automatic update and will take his chances in the future.
Out of curiosity, I went over to the update site to see if the validation tool installed, the one choice I had left checked, and it told me I had to install another validation tool. DUH...? How many times do I have to tell the company that yes, its really me, yes I bought this system, and its still living here with me, and yes, it has always passed the continual validation tests in the past.
I give up......don't need the headaches anymore

Really?
You know, I'd almost be tempted to believe that......if I haven't been
reading other places of folks who had the same thing happen to them with this
update.......and even had it happen to me twice.......
Good company line, though.
I like it.
