Unable to update as windows update refuses to work under anything other than
IE, and my IE doesn't work at all, considering finding an old program I ran
in the Win98 days called BigFix... I think.

no actual error, just won't load any pages, IE engine won't work in Netscape
and my images aren't loading in Outlook Express so I think it's just plain
died... i can open it and go though all the settings and change them and
everything but when I type an address in the addy bar and hit enter it just
doesn't load anything.

Windows version?

I suggest you get the IE problem fixed first:

Checking for/Help with Hijackware

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
