Software Distribution Folder on Vista32 System

Several weeks ago I was having trouble with some updates. Microsoft's
recommendation was to rename the Software Distribution folder to sd.old and
stop/restart automatic updates. Of course the Software Distribution folder
was recreated when updates restarted. The fix worked, but now I have this
sd.old folder. In sd.old/download, I have numerous programs, at least one
of which I suspect needs to be deleted or patched.

So here are my questions. Does windows automatic update look at the sd.old
folder and recognize needed patches? Can I delete sd.old and its contents?
Or should I try to move the contents of sd.old into the new Software
Distribution folder?

If anyone is interested, the one that may need patching is

"x86_microsoft-windows-msxml60_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_886df c4296d66f1f/msxml6.dll"

Windows update says I'm up to date, but Secunia says the program needs to be
patched. If anyone knows about this that would also help)

All answers appreciated.

Hi,

Windows Update will not acknowledge anything in the renamed folder. Just
delete it. The reason they had you rename it was in case of issues you could
just rename it back. You no longer need it.

Rick, this may be the second response to you. If so, my apologies, but I
wanted to make sure I said thanks.
