I'm after opinions on what software to use - freeware or commercial - that
makes the job of securely erasing data unreferenced by the system directory
(ie. deleted but still there). I a degree of security so that the data is
fully unrecoverable. There is software out there to delete entire volumes
but for now I just want to clean the unreferenced data. Thanks for your
help.

1. http://www.diskeeper.com/press/relea...2008090201.htm
Secure Delete by Diskeeper

2. http://www.diskwiper.com/
Diskwiper by Paragon

3. http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/pr...ser/index.html
Acronis Drive Cleaner

Not in any particular order - but I'm sure there's quite a few programs that
will do the job.

Thank you but I know how to Google. Googling turns up hundreds of hits and I
am after an OPINION on which application people have used and found helpful.
Morover, I am not after software to delete files but software to delete data
that is unreferenced by the file table.

I use "Eraser":

Lots of options, and it's free.

The one I would use for this aside from paying an arm and a leg for a commercial one is
