software testing failed.

I have xp. For 6 months havent been able to sucessfully download any updates
for my computer. When ever i try to accress microsoft website internet
explorer crashes. Everytime i go to instal an update it says " software
testing failed, contact adminstrator". if you know the answer to my question
please let me know.
