I work for a software company which uses IE to generate short reports
and print them. I am getting the following message if I try to print
these types of reports:

==========================================
An error has occured in the script on this page (!)
Line: 78
Char: 21
Error: Access is denied
Code: 0
URL: res://IEPT.dll/pt_ie6_portrait.htm

Do you wish to continue running scripts on this page?
[Yes] [No]
===========================================

We have identified that the problem is specifically with KB916281. If
we uninstall this windows update then our software functions normally
and is able to print these types of reports. I know that clients which
run XP SP2 have reported problems, but I believe it also affects 2000,
XP, XP SP1 as well.

Thanks in advance for any help

You might need to raise this as a support incident directly with Microsoft.

In the meantime, can you find the smallest example test-case piece of
JavaScript that exhibits this problem, and post it here, in case a slight
modification to the code would fix the problem.

The more I look into this, the more curious I get. I cannot find an
IEPT.DLL on my systems. A search on Google mentions IEPT.DLL only a few
times in the context of malware removal.

Where did this IEPT.DLL come from?

Thanks for the reply. I am checking with our Dev group to determine
which portion of the code is affected. I will update this post as soon
as I have more info. Thanks again.

Scan a system that has iept.dll on it with HijackThis.
If it's listed in the 02-BHO section of the log and the
CLSID is {2686C435-9CB6-11C4-A78D-58954130FC95} then there is a
CoolWebSearch infestation. This variant is known as
" About-blank " and can be removed with AboutBuster :
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4289.html

Confirm by entering the CLSID here: http://www.castlecops.com/CLSID.html
