Solitaire Face Cards- no traditional?

I bought a new computer with Vista Premium and when I opened the solitaire
game, I cannot find the 'traditional' English facecards, like on Bicycle
cards. Is there a way to import the look of the traditional cards, or will I
have to buy a Solitaire program? I have a hard time distinguishing the face
cards they provide. Thanks in advance.

Start Solitaire, hit F7 (OR click on Game, Change Appearance), see if
there's a deck that works better for you.

There are four decks, but none that are traditional. Hmmm. I wonder if it's
possible to import windows xp solitaire graphics or heck the whole game?

Thanks for the idea. Choice #1 is close, but not like original. My husband
likes the traditional version and likes to play without glasses as it's
intermediate distance.

Copy "sol.exe" from an XP or Win98 machine. Should work swell.

I had the same problem. I hated the Windows Vista solitaire.

So I fixed it by copying the following 3 files from my old Windows XP pc to
my new machine. I have Windows Vista Home Premium - so I can't speak for any
other version.

It requires 3 files: (I renamed the executables ....xp so I wouldn't
conflict with any existing files)

cards.dll
freecellxp.exe
solxp.exe

I uploaded them to the web if you want to copy them

http://one.fsphost.com/sehodge/games/cards.dll
http://one.fsphost.com/sehodge/games/solxp.exe
http://one.fsphost.com/sehodge/games/freecellxp.exe

Hope this helps.

Steve

Open a windows explorer window (flag+e). Do not make the window maximum.
Copy all 3 files to the window directory C:\Windows. Make a shortcut for
solxp and freecellxp.

If you want the games just on your desktop, drag the shortcuts to the desktop.

If you use quick launch, right-click an drag solxp.exe to the task bar.
Click on copy. Do the same for freecellxp.exe and now you can run both from
you quick launch bar.

If you don't use quick launch or the desktop, it get more difficult.

Open a windows explorer window (flag+e)
Copy all 3 files to the window directory C:\Windows. Make a shortcut for
solxp and freecellxp.
Open a second windows explorer window (flag+e)
Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games

Go back to the window with solxp and freecellxp shortcuts in it. Hilite the
two files.
Go to the Games window and paste them there. You should now be able to find
them under Start\AllPrograms\Games

Hey, Mr. Catman,

I have a similar inconvenience, and maybe you can help me
with it.

I went from Windows-2000 directly to Vista. Everything is
fine, but I very much prefer the Solitaire that was on
Windows-2000. I don't mean just the face card issue, but
the other subtle differences between the two.

Can you - or anyone else here - help?

Thanks.
