I was getting the script error 3 running Windows Update on Windows XP SP2.
I did 4 things to resolve this:
1) Delete all iuctl.dll and iuengine.dll files from all folders
2) Download and reinstall Windows Update DLL's, using instructions at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...ndows%20Update
3) Create the batch file listed at
http://www.sherylcanter.com/movablet...es/000006.html
and run it
4) Run BugOff (download from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/) and use it
to ENABLE one of the services to ensure scripts would run
I haven't determined if any of these steps can be omitted, and I haven't
tried disabling the service I enabled using BugOff. But Windows Update works
once more.
I ask Microsoft to add an article in their Support KnowedgeBase, and also in
the Windows Update Troubleshooter, regarding the "Automation server can't
create object" error that so many people are getting.
