Hi,
Read the documentation in the KB article. It is not a issue or a patch. It is a simple registry tweak that replaces the MAX_CONNECTIONS hack that has been around since IE5. See Kelly's Corner. For the majority of uses, the factory settings for the number of con-current connections is adequate. There are reasons why the factory settings are the way they are otherwise it would be designed to allow an unlimited number of connections. My guess is that you have a 'Download Manager' installed (which don't appear in the IE Addons Managers list of Addons and so cannot be disabled from the the Addons Manager or the No third-party extensions setting or the Win7 IE troubleshooting wizard) Or You are using a chat program (perhaps Messenger, AIM Buddy, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ) and regularly starting up broadcast file transfers to all your friends, blowing away the MAX_CONNECTIONS limit. (this would explain why your 'friends' IE browsers are also crashing, you are pushing 5 or 6 file transfers to them at once). The important thing to find out is 'why' because the Troubleshooting wizards are not detecting and correcting the issue. Knowing why your issue is occurring will help MS tune the IE Addons Manager or the Troubleshooting wizards to detect and correct the issue automatically. I already know that the IE Addons Manager does not detect and disable certain types of 'Download Managers'. This may be the real underlying issue that has to be addressed rather than offering an obscure 'FixIt' patch. Without your co-operation I am only guessing. G.T has already explained why you have received such a cold reception to your posts (hijacking threads, poorly worded descriptions). Ok, you have a learning curve to go through in order to make a quality post. As I first said to you "The quality of our answers will depend upon the quality of your Questions" Regards. And not quoting the entire post to which you were replying. Most of us here
do not access this newsgroup via the clunky web-interface you use. rob^_^ wrote: <snip> > G.T has already explained why you have received such a cold reception to > your posts (hijacking threads, poorly worded descriptions)... > > "jedab" wrote: >> i did participate in the beta testing program and this was an issue for >> me >> since then. i had tried to solve it myself, but after almost a year >> asking >> "why" and having tried all of your suggestions on my own with no success >> i >> decided it was time to ask for help. that is why i did not want to take >> those >> steps yet again, which i had stated 2 or 3 times that i had taken all >> those >> steps several times over and i got grief for saying it was ie8 not my av >> or >> add-ons, setup yadda yadda yadda... >> the "why" turns out to be a known ie8 issue which everyone here seems to >> not >> want to know about but microsoft already knew about it and has a kb >> article >> on the matter. >> when i said i suspect it is the "amount of connections" neither you nor >> pa >> bear nor anyone else directed me to the kb article pa bear referenced in >> his >> last post and thank you pa bear for that link to the kb article >> nor did you send me that link to google you searched for me and thank you >> very much, by the way. >> how can anyone expect me to contribute when all you mvps kept looking for >> fault where it didnt exist to begin with but was a known issue that you >> all >> denied existed >> until pa bears last posting...thank you pa bear, you wont see me here >> anymore now. >> i did mention this issue to ms in the surveys they sent me during the >> beta >> testing and i mentioned it again when i got the emails asking my opinion >> of >> the rc and mentioned it again when asked what i felt needed to still be >> worked on for the final release. >> if mentioning that kb article was done the first time i said "amount of >> connections" this posting of mine would have ended days ago and all of >> you >> would not have been so annoyed and irritated by me and i would have "gone >> away" as you so hoped i would. >> i see now that i should have included all this info in my first post, but >> that was MY FIRST POST EVER and just was ignorant to how to ask a >> question >> on >> here. >> but i question if any of you would have believed me even then that the >> issue >> is an ie8 issue and not me doing something wrong. >> and now that my issue is resolved i shall "go away" >> and i hope i never have to ask for help here again >> and thank you all again for reading my annoying posts >> >> "rob^_^" wrote: >> >>> Hi Je, >>> >>> Great to hear you found a fix. hi rob,
i have repeatedly said that ie8 has not crashed no download manager. no chat program on one and messenger on one but i dont chat online with these 2 windows 7 computers, i chat using the windows vista computer only for now no streaming video or music. again let me state that i have repeatedly said that ie8 has not crashed, just with open page number 4 i get the cannot display the page message and the diagnose connections button and it ALWAYS says there are no issues and to explore other options or close. open windows 1-3 continued to work normally...number 4 gave me the error message and i just closed that window and used the 3 open ones that had no issue. after a year (almost) of getting no where with that cannot display the page diagnose button or the ie troubleshooters in control panel and going thru every single thing you all have suggested again and again and formatted and started over fresh and with av installed and with no av installed same problem i came here looking for help and ever since i ran that microsoft fix it my problem has disappeared on the 2 computers with win7 that i am now using (another one has windows vista and another has windows xp pro with sp3 and all current updates both without ie8). i have not spoken to my friends yet to tell them what i did. so for ME the issue is closed because im happy now that ie8 is working fine. right now i have 6 open ie8 windows and everythings working fine, 2 days ago i could only have 3 open ie windows. let me say that all in all i do find your posts give me more things to look into than all the others combined and i thank you for that. and i swear this is the last post from me on this issue. thank you all for all your posts "rob^_^" wrote: > Hi, > > Read the documentation in the KB article. A problem with that feature is that it uses a different program than the one you are having trouble with (iexplore.exe). Hence it would not be affected by the connection limit. Also, what kind of connection link do you have? E.g. dial-up or broadband? Dial-up is still constrained to 2 connections having the same endpoints. In IE8 this supposedly has been loosened for broadband... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...,printer).aspx (BING search for broadband max connection limit "dial-up" site:microsoft.com ) <quote> The maxConnectionsPerServer attribute will return 6 on a broadband connection unless a user or an administrator has overridden the default settings. If the client computer is connected through dial-up, maxConnectionsPerServer will return 2 if connected to an HTTP 1.1 server or 4 if connected to an HTTP 1.0 server. </quote> > after a year (almost) of getting no where with that cannot display the page > diagnose button or the ie troubleshooters in control panel and going thru > every single thing you all have suggested again I suggested doing some diagnosis. You would only have to do that once if you could draw the correct inferences from it. ; ) FYI Robert --- > and again and formatted and > started over fresh and with av installed and with no av installed same > problem i came here looking for help and ever since i ran that microsoft fix > it my problem has disappeared on the 2 computers with win7 that i am now > using (another one has windows vista and another has windows xp pro with sp3 > and all current updates both without ie8). > i have not spoken to my friends yet to tell them what i did. > so for ME the issue is closed because im happy now that ie8 is working fine. > right now i have 6 open ie8 windows and everythings working fine, 2 days ago > i could only have 3 open ie windows. > let me say that all in all i do find your posts give me more things to look > into than all the others combined and i thank you for that. > and i swear this is the last post from me on this issue. > thank you all for all your posts > > "rob^_^" wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> Read the documentation in the KB article. Your machine (and your friends) is now a zombie and at the beck and call of
a East European hacker. I will keep an eye out for spam from RR email addresses at my honey pots. (earthlink is a popular spam source also). Rootkit attacks are not removed by a re-format or system restore. Although I could be wrong... I am not sure how hardened Win7 is against it. But probably if it has been on your machine since the Win7 RC's, and undetected, it will still be there now after several upgrades and re-formats. http://www.google.com/search?q=detecting rootkit infections Regards.
