I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 VO1 on which some keys are displaying
the wrong symbol. Several of these keys are connected to the symbols
above the numbers on the keyboard that require the shift button to be
pressed i.e.. Shift + 2 should result in @ (ampersand) but I get the £
symbol ! Can anyone suggest what I can do to correct this? The computer
is nearly new. It is running Vista Home Premium.

Thanks in anticipation! DD

many times those keys are not the shift+ key but the <fn> key
if you push the (fn) key they should go back to normal.

hit windows - type language - hit regional & lang options - keyboards & lang
tab - change keyboard - make sure all is UK

@ is the 'at' sign

& is ampersand

If you are getting the Pound sign (), you most probably have the UK
keyboard selected, although you actually get that with SHIFT + 3 on the UK
keyboard, not SHIFT + 2.

Go into Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel and select the US
keyboard and delete the UK one. I believe you use the US keyboard in
Australia.

Thanks for the advice, nothing seems to work. It could be a driver but
I think it will be better if I return it under warranty.

Thanks DD

First thing you might want to check is that the application software in
question was designed for the locale your computer and OS are set to as
this sounds like a local/regional settings problem/incompatibility with
the OS and/or application software.
