I have a Windows XP SP2 computer that is seen by the WSUS server. Some
patches have been installed correctly, but others that I think "should
be" applied are listed as "not needed." In particular, the Windows XP
machine is running Office XP SP2. I have approved the Office XP SP3
update on the WSUS computer. Why is this patch being listed as "not
needed?"

Hi,

Actually, WSUS questions should be posted to the new newsgroup
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

(while SUS questions should still go to
microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs)

From a previous post by Don Cottam, MSFT:

***Windows Server Update Services is now released***

This morning during his keynote address at the 2005 TechEd conference, Steve
Ballmer announced the official release of the new Microsoft Update service,
along with Windows Server Update Services.

A new newsgroup dedicated to WSUS is now available at
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services. Since SUS and WSUS are
built on completely different code bases and technologies, we want to keep
the discussions about each product separate in order to avoid confusion.

If you use SUS, or have questions (or answers) related to SUS, please
continue to use this softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup: it won't be closed or
abandoned, and we will continue monitoring this newsgroup and answering
questions related to SUS here.

If you use WSUS, are considering using WSUS or are in the process of
migrating from SUS to WSUS, then please use the new
windows.server.update_services newsgroup. Keeping relevant questions and
conversations in the appropriate newsgroups will help ensure that they are
seen and answered promptly by the right people.

Thanks,
-don

Hi,

FYI:

Please post WSUS questions to the new newsgroup
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new
