some things very slow after update

Windows XP Pro sp2

When I shut down end-of-day yesterday, it prompted me to "Install updates
and shut down", which I did. (10 Jan 2007)

I came in today. It started real slowly.

I always use [WindowsKey]-E to open Windows Explorer. It usually takes no
time for it to open. Now it takes 50 seconds to open. During that time the
entire task bar is disabled, but other apps seem to be usable, like Internet
Explorer.

Interestingly, to me, while I'm waiting the 50 seconds for Explorer to open
by using [WindowsKey]-E, I can double click on My Computer and it opens
immediately and I can immediately browse folders.

Did the latest updates include IE7 by any chance? If so, uninstall it in
Add/Remove Programs (look for Windows Internet Explorer 7) and it will
revert back to IE6 and should eliminate the problems you've been having.

A second restart seemed to take care of the problem.
