all of a sudden, a pop up opened and said that someone @hotmail.com was
added to my contact list!!!

How can this be? I didn't chose to add anyone! I immediately blocked this
person...

whats going on???

could some script from a site do this? I was on a USA government page!
This one> http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/

with firefox...

that's all I was doing...

any ideas how this could happen?

The intruded probably guessed your email address - and was trying
to invade your privacy.

You will be safe, provided you have configured the privacy
settings in WLMessenger so that "Only people on your Allow list
can see your status and send you messages".

Every time anyone tries to add you as a contact, you will receive
a pop-up warning. Then, you must add an intruder's name to your
blocked list.

I'm not sure whether the latest WLMessenger release includes an
option to report the incident to Microsoft. I believe it should.

This is how I have it and always had it in the past...

I am very aware of all of the functions of live messenger, that is why this
was out of the norm.

I did not get a pop up warning. That's what I am saying. settings have
always have been like I had them, rechecked just now,

"Only people on your Allow list can see your status and send you messages".

Greetings,

It's possible to prompt you to add someone via scripting/API, but actually adding to your
list would require an application actually running on your system to press the necessary keys
on your behalf, so web pages can't do it.

Who is the contact anyway?
