Are you using two different computers, such as a desktop at home and a
laptop at work?
This will pop-up message commonly occurs, when you have signed into
Messenger on the desktop and then, you leave the computer running
without signing out from Messenger.
If you boot your laptop and sign into Messenger, using the same
identity, the system will sign you out from the first computer
automatically and generate the popup message on the first machine.
Your sign in identity will be based upon your hotmail.com, msn.com or
live.com email address - which is hardly top secret information.
However, if you receive this pop-up message and you are using one
computer exclusively, then someone might have discovered your password.
In that case, the remedy is to change the password immediately.
Your post refers to MSN Messenger. This newsgroup deals with Windows
Live Messenger, which is a different program. Consequently, a different
possibility occurred to me.
I wonder whether you could be running two different Messenger programs
on the same computer. I really don't know whether that could happen,
but it is worth checking whether your start-up configuration includes
more than one Messenger program. If so, that might create duplicate
sign ins. The remedy would be to uninstall one of the Messenger
programs.
