Something amiss with updates??

System is Vista 64 bit HP laptop. For the past few weeks I have been
getting "Program has stopped working" and this appears to have started
after the installation of some Microsoft updates but I can't be sure.
Before that the system was working just fine. This is happening with many
applications and they have not been changed. Anyone else having similar
problems??
