Vista Utlimate (32 bit) misidentifies my Sony DVD-RW (DRU-170C) as "SONY DVD
RW AW-G170A SCSI CdRom Device" in the device manager-- it's the CdRom portion
that I believe is responsible for Vista not displaying the "Recording" tab in
the properties for this device and also not allowing burning to take place
either using Explorer (drag-and-drop data or audio files) or through Media
Player. And yes, I've tried numerous times to update the driver -- always
claims it's up to date. Note: Using Nero I am able burn CD-RW, CD+RW,
DVD-RW, and DVD-RW DL disks fine (same drive, same computer, same Vista OS).
Is there a way to force Vista to treat a DVD/CD burner as a DVD/CD burner or
am I back to the pre-XP days where 3rd party software is required to perform
these simple tasks?
