In Windows XP - and as far back as I can remember I could always sort by the
file creation date, which I depend on to look at pictures or videos.
In Vista I used Movie maker to store some videos, but when I open the folder
the date fields on all of the videos is blank. I have to look at each file
(over 400) one by one and right click on properties to find the creation date.

This is such a simple thing I hate to ask how to do it, but what am I
missing here? Thanks

You are using Windows Explorer to look at these files?
If so, your folder is probably set to use the "Pictures & Video" template.
In Detail View, do the column headers show "Name | Date Taken | Tags | Size
| Rating "?
to view another Date column, right-click on the Name column heading
and either select "Date Modified", or select More... there are a lot to
choose from.

Explorer gives you the option to view whatever information you want in each
folder.

Right click on the Column Name bar and select More, Date Created is one of the
options to add to your columns headers.
