I just bought a Toshiba L300-19F laptop with Vista Home edition on it.
The address book in Outlook Express turns out to be replaced by the Contact
persons program in Vista. In the address book it was possible to put its
content in the alphabetical order of last names. In Vista it seems only be
possible to sort by first names. To me this seems very unpractical,
especially in countries where first names are not used as often as in the
USA. Should I maybe buy a business upgrade of Vista to be able to sort my
contacts by last names?

No... it wouldn't change a thing in that regard.

What prevents you sorting Contacts by last name ?
I have 'Last Name' as the first column with the table sorted
alphabetically by that column. I don't display 'First Name' but have
'Full name' as the second column if that makes any difference.
